Herricks and STAC

At the age of 10, Omar's family moved to Long Island, New York where he attended Herricks High School in New Hyde Park, NY. At Herricks, Omar was selected to join the innovative co-curricular Student Television Arts Company (STAC) under the direction of Ron DeMaio. During his three years as a member, Omar was exposed to innovative dance, drama and music training through STAC’s series of workshops with New York City professionals. In addition, Omar learned video production – from the storyboard stage to editing. Equally important were the frequent field-trips to attend dance, music and Broadway productions in New York City. Omar also performed starring roles in theatrical productions including Our Town, (George Gibbs) and Into the Woods, (Jack) directed by Ron DeMaio. To a great extent, Omar’s time in STAC set the stage for his decision to lead a creative life.
